The Africana Studies Program is pleased to host a virtual book club featuring Dr. Kellie Carter Jackson’s newest book, We Refuse, moderated by Dr. Layla Brown, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Africana Studies at Northeastern University.  The club meets twice, on January 14th and February 13th, 2025.  Please register using the link below.  This is a FREE event!

We Refuse: A Forceful History of Black Resistance explores the many ways African Americans resist white supremacy, redefining revolution by showing how the Haitian Revolution and the Reconstruction era achieved greater liberation compared to the American Revolution.

The Book Club will be moderated by Dr. Layla Brown, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Africana Studies at Northeastern University. The club will meet virtually on Zoom on Tuesday, January 14th from 12-1:30PM and Thursday, February 13th from 5-6:30PM.

This is a free event and a copy of We Refuse will be given to the first 20 registrants. Books can be purchased anywhere books are sold, but we recommend Frugal Books, an Africana Studies Community Partner.
