Led by Deaf instructors, this three-day program is designed to immerse ASL students at various levels in an ASL-only environment. Upon arrival, participants will be assessed and placed into groups based on skill level. Each group will spend the weekend improving ASL comprehension and expression by attending a sequence of skill appropriate classes and interacting with the local Deaf community.
*Those who are just beginning to study ASL and those seeking to enhance their ASL skills will find this week particularly beneficial.
Prerequisite: ASL Immersion will be conducted entirely in American Sign Language, with no English interpretation provided. In order to effectively participate in the program, attendees must have (at minimum) conversational skills in American Sign Language. This includes both receptive and expressive abilities. To satisfy this minimum language requirement, a prerequisite of at least 1 semester of formal ASL coursework is in place. Current high school students and anyone who has not yet completed a formal ASL class should email us at NUASLProgram@gmail.com if you believe you have the minimum skill level required to attend.
