Mya Poe Receives University Excellence in Teaching Award

Mya Poe

Assistant professor of English Mya Poe has received this year’s university-wide Excellence in Teaching Award. She is also the recipient of the CSSH Outstanding Teaching Award: Tenured/Tenure-Track. Members of the university-wide award committee indicated that they were especially captivated by Professor Poe’s statement of teaching philosophy and impressed with her effectiveness in teaching writing to science students. Professor Poe’s tireless commitment to her students’ success, both in and out of the classroom, is inspirational. She creates an environment that is interactive, critical, and inclusive. She has established several writing groups, mentoring graduate students on their master’s theses, assisting PhD students with their exams and dissertations, and supporting lecturers as they move their scholarship toward publication.
