Programmatic student learning outcomes for the Spanish BA.

Spanish majors will demonstrate the ability to understand, speak and write Spanish at an advanced level, including various regional differences, by producing written essays and achieving an advanced proficiency rating on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages’ oral proficiency interview assessment.

Students will demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend Spanish by critically analyzing, summarizing and/or producing written reports or oral presentations on a variety of Spanish texts including narratives, poetry, newspapers, films and websites.

Students will possess the ability to analyze and examine the variety of cultures, past and present, existing in Latin America, Spain and the U.S. as demonstrated by producing course-related written essays, reports, written or spoken reflections and/or oral presentations.

Students will have at least one Spanish immersion experience as demonstrated by enrollment in a one-semester study abroad experience or two Dialogues of Civilization to a Spanish-speaking country.
