Joseph E. Stiglitz is an American economist and a professor at Columbia University. Stiglitz was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001. He is also the co-chair of The Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation (ICRICT), Chief Economist of the Roosevelt Institute and Chair of the Extraordinary Committee of Independent Experts on Global Wealth Inequality appointed by the South African G20 Presidency. He is a former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and a former member and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.

Eric Verhoogen, Professor, Department of Economics and School of International and Public Affairs and Co-Director, Center for Development Economics and Policy at Columbia University. His main research area is “firms and development” — applied microeconomic studies of firm behavior in developing countries. Much of his work focuses on the process of upgrading, understood broadly to include learning, technology adoption, quality improvement, and product innovation.
