English students present at RISE expo

The Research, Innovation, and Scholarship Expo (RISE) takes place on April 13, 2017 in the Cabot Physical Education Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Among this year’s RISE presenters, you’ll find English majors Laura Packard and Lexi Bond presenting their research on the textuality, provenance, and physicality of Northeastern University’s Dragon Prayer Book (“Accessible Archives: Studying and Digitizing Northeastern’s Only Medieval Manuscript,” Faculty advisor, Professor Erika Boeckeler); Biology/English combined major Sarah Sherman presenting her research on how writing and narrative can impact chronic illness and doctor-patient relationships (“What if I’m the Zebra?,” Faculty advisor, Professor Ellen Noonan); and Writing minor Abbie MacNeal presenting team research that examines the effect of legalese in jury instruction on verdicts (“Jargon and Justice: Using Linguistics to Improve Legal Language,” Principal Investigator, Professor Janet Randall). The celebration of scholarship continues with the Department of English Peter Burton Hanson Writing Award reception, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in 310 Renaissance Park. We hope to see you there!
