Service-Learning Partnership with Peace through Play Contributed by Community Partner Frank Marino, Executive Director Peace through Play

from Service-Learning Newsletter (February 2011)

Peace through Play has been a community partner of the service-learning program for many years, and with each semester our partnership grows stronger. Service-Learning students are an integral part of our organization’s success – they come to Peace through Play with a unique and alternative focus that drives their service and furthermore our organization to new exciting levels. By viewing our work through a service-learning lens, students serving with Peace through Play have been able to make meaningful impact on our organization. Many service-learning students have gone on to continue their service with us beyond their course requirement, and a dedicated bunch have pursued leadership positions on our current executive board! I am consistently impressed by the passion service-learning students bring to their work as a Peace through Play volunteers from courses such as Human Services Professions, Education in the Community, and our new students from Advanced Spanish.
