Kate Marple, a Human Services program alum and current lecturer, continues her passion outside of the classroom to help nonprofits partner with clients and communities to tell their own stories. Through her project “Who Tells the Story,” she does just that. With the assistance of various nonprofit organizations, Kate has created a dialogue to discuss how those stories are framed and how they represent both people and communities. She has created a free downloadable guide to explain the varying ways that this change can occur. The guide shares research and strategies for engaging clients in storytelling efforts and includes tools to help foster informed conversations about consenting to share one’s story. Kate’s guide is a “jumping off place for organizations to examine their current storytelling practices, and, hopefully, it is the start of a larger conversation about how we can all do this work better.”
