Security and Resilience Speaker Series: Professor Laura Kuhl “Climate Finance to Promote Resilience and Climate Justice”. Laura Kuhl’s scholarship examines climate adaptation and sustainable transitions internationally and in the United States, and a key motivation across her research is climate justice. She has conducted fieldwork in Latin American, the Caribbean, and East Africa, and has published in leading climate and development policy journals, including Nature, Climate Policy, Nature Climate Change, Climate and Development, World Development and Environmental Science and Policy. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in climate, environment, and international affairs and in 2023 received Northeastern’s University Excellence in Teaching Award.

Feminist Foundations, Feminist Futures: Celebrating Signs at 50, the annual WGSS Women’s History Month Symposium. Sahar Aziz’s groundbreaking book demonstrates how race and religion intersect to create what she calls the Racial Muslim. Comparing discrimination against immigrant Muslims with the prejudicial treatment of Jews, Catholics, Mormons, and African American Muslims during the twentieth century, Aziz explores the gap between America’s aspiration for and fulfillment of religious freedom. With America’s demographics rapidly changing from a majority white Protestant nation to a multiracial, multi-religious society, this book is an in dispensable read for understanding how our past continues to shape our present—to the detriment of our nation’s future.
