Assistant Director of the Writing Center

The Assistant Director of the Writing Center assists the Director of the Writing Center in overseeing the day-to-day tutoring operation of the Center in Holmes, Snell, and online. Regular duties include coordinating the staffing schedule through WCOnline; serving as a first point of contact for inquiries about the Writing Center’s services and tutor issues; planning and facilitating ongoing staff training and education, including helping to coordinate staff meetings, training, and observations; assisting with hiring; updating the handbook; assisting with continuous assessment, data collection, and reporting; attending all Writing Director meetings; and working closely with the Director and the writing center administrative team on long-range goals and planning relating to tutoring. The director will work closely with the assistant director to achieve their goals.

Requirements for the position include reliability, experience tutoring in a writing center, and familiarity with writing studies scholarship and writing center pedagogy. This position benefits Ph.D. students interested in administrative positions within academia or alt-ac positions (for example, in community literacy programs).
