Research Assistant - Environmental Multilateralism and Leadership of Small States
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join a multigenerational research team during Summer 2025, supporting the development of the Handbook on Environmental Multilateralism and the Leadership of Small States. This role involves leading the conceptual framework development, managing engagement with contributors from academia and practice, supervising undergraduate and master’s students, and providing constructive feedback on their work. The team will collaboratively develop a detailed Handbook outline, identifying key themes that illustrate the transformative role of small states in environmental multilateralism, with a focus on their leadership, innovation, and contributions to global sustainability efforts. This project will offer the student hands-on research experience in global environmental governance, enhance their skills in academic writing and stakeholder engagement, and facilitate connections with global scholars and practitioners.

Project Description
This project aims to develop the Handbook on Environmental Multilateralism and the Leadership of Small States. Co-edited with Ambassador Keisha McGuire (former Ambassador of Grenada to the United Nations), the Handbook will bring together interdisciplinary perspectives, case studies, and theoretical analyses to uncover how small states leverage innovation, coalition-building, and moral authority to advance collective action on pressing environmental challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and plastic pollution. By engaging academics and practitioners as contributors, it will blend theoretical depth with real-world applicability, expanding the knowledge base in the global governance and international relations disciplines.
