Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Research

A doctoral student in criminology whose interests lie at the intersection of criminal law, crime prevention, juvenile justice, and the influence of race and ethnicity on court decision making, Steven has produced an impressive body of work, including ten articles in the flagship journals of his field. As a research assistant on the Cambridge-Somerville Youth Study, led by his advisor, Professor Brandon Welsh, Steven displayed exceptional skills in data collection and statistical analysis. Steven has already won recognition for service to his profession and for his dissertation research, in the form of the inaugural Joan McCord Doctoral Fellowship. Thanks to his passion and focus, tomorrow’s at-risk youth and juvenile offenders have a chance for a brighter future.
