Associate Teaching Professor in English

Matt Noonan is a painter and educator who has over 30 years of experience in teaching writing in higher education. He has a Doctoral degree from Northeastern University, Boston where he completed his Doctoral Project entitled “Making Maps: Teacher Inquiry and the Assessment of ESL Writers.” Additionally, he holds an MFA in painting with a concentration in painting, printmaking and ceramics from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. He has presented at several conferences, including the Northeast CCCC Conference, the Engaging Practices Conference, and the BRAWN Summer Institute. He has also published two chapters in books on translingual pedagogies and the internationalization of U.S. Writing Programs. 

Noonan is currently an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Writing Program at Northeastern University, where he has worked since 1991. He has also held various positions at the university, including Director of PMIS and Director of ESOL and assessment and placement. He is currently a member of the Writing Program Assessment Committee, where he and his colleague examine antiracist assessment practices.
