Postdoctoral Fellow
Ira Halpern is a postdoctoral fellow, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). His current research focuses on how U.S. fiction from the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries takes up the entanglements of health and medicine with social reform and political change. Two articles emerge from this research: “Health Care Fictions: The Business of Medicine and Modern US Literature” appears in American Literature, and “Diagnosing Desire: Literary Experiments with Sexuality and the Nerves” is forthcoming in Literature and Medicine. Before beginning his current postdoctoral fellowship at Northeastern, he was the Teagle/National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Postdoctoral Fellow at the John J. Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values at the University of Notre Dame.
