Congratulations to recent alumnus Ignacio Chaparro for joining the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) as a Project Specialist!
Chaparro graduated in May with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and joined the DHE in June where he manages key initiatives, provides background research, and helps develop policy recommendations. He also facilitates academic program quality, consumer protections, and helps assess applications for new programs.
According to Chaparro, Northeastern University’s MPA allowed him to take advantage of an experiential education that balanced theory and practice—skills he is applying to his new position.
“The MPA provided me with an opportunity to interact in real-time with key players on research that put theory into practice,” Chaparro said. “Being able to have multiple classes that reinforced this process is what made my MPA valuable.”

Shannon Dooling describes Central American media: “In El Salvador, I remember going into a gas station and looking at three newspapers. On the covers of all of them were topics related to US immigration policy, and then beneath that, some horribly graphic photo of gang violence”
“I don’t think think we have enough information to know whether being anti-immigrant or pro-immigrant helps you with votes, I think the only thing we know is what is right and wrong, and we should being making policies and advocating based on that” - Hermanth Gundavaram #OCNEU
