Boston Voting Trends

PhD candidate James Sutherland recently contributed to the article, “The incredibly vanishing Boston voter,” published by Commonwealth Magazine. Accompanied by former Boston City Council president Lawrence S. DiCara and Minutemen Health, Inc. member service specialist Samuel True Adams, Sutherland researched voting patterns throughout the past 30 years, focusing primarily on off-year elections. An increasing decline in voter turnout for off-year elections can be attributed to less candidate action: fewer candidates are running and for those who are running, less money is being spent on campaigns. To read the full article, please click here.
