Shared Vision on Disaster Recovery

Professor Daniel Aldrich recently contributed to New Zealand’s The Press in an article discussing the implications of shared vision on disaster relief and recovery. The article, “Shared vision ‘critical’ says recovery expert,” focused primarily the rebuilding process following natural disasters such as the earthquake in Kobe, Japan and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, as well as the current brushfire sweeping through Christchurch, New Zealand. Professor Aldrich noted, “A resilient city is one in which the people work and play together and believe that they are working towards a shared goal. Where people feel isolated, alone or ignored by city officials, this can cause a very damaging cycle where residents disengage from the planning process and city officials move further away from a shared vision,” To read the full article, please click here.
