Nik Beimler is a doctoral student in the Department of Political Science at Northeastern University, specializing in international relations and comparative politics. He has a strong background and interest in the European Union, nationalism, and supranational institutions.
Nik grew up in a small town in upstate New York, but history, the outdoors, and the Red Sox drove him to New England after high school. His interest in Political Science began as an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, and grew during his time as a reporter and during several trips to Europe after receiving his Bachelor’s degree. Outside of academic work, Nik enjoys cycling, reading, and the music of Bruce Springsteen, whom Nik has seen in concert 26 times.
Nik has a strong interest in the European Union and its relationship with nationalism. Specifically, he is interested in the EU’s attempts to create a pan-European identity that exists alongside and supersedes nationalism within individual member-states.
Before attending Northeastern, Nik was a full-time reporter for Foster’s Daily Democrat and the Portsmouth Herald in southern New Hampshire.
