PhD Candidate Emma Fridel is the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Graduate Student Award, presented annually by the Graduate and Student Government (GSG) and the Office of the Provost. Awards are presented in the following categories: research, community service, experiential learning, and teaching. Fridel received the award in research for her work on lethal violence, specifically homicide (including mass murder, serial murder, and homicide-suicide). Fridel has previously published in journals like Criminology and Social Forces. The awards were established to honor individuals, who, by their contributions to their field and the community, have brought recognition to themselves and the University.
