Sarah Goodman
Political Science, B.S.
Graduated in May 2020
Sarah Goodman, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, grew up interested in the world around her and knew that she wanted to study the mechanisms of law and policy in order to help people. Throughout her time at Northeastern, she put her interests into practice during her co-ops, starting with a small law firm in Boston and later with the Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s office. Sarah graduated from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities in May 2020 with a BS in Political Science, and minors in International Affairs, Law and Public Policy. She is currently attending the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
From a young age, Sarah took a liking to politics and their place in the world and its various institutions. When she came to Northeastern, it was clear she'd pursue political science.
Classes with Professor Denise Garcia in international law and global governance helped Sarah realize her interest in the broad spectrum of political science which would help her draft her senior thesis.
The law office of Mark D. Cooper was Sarah's first co-op where she was given the opportunity to work with clients from many different backgrounds and assist them in obtaining their immigration benefits.
In the summer of 2017 Sarah completed the Civilizations dialogue with Professor Michael Hoppmann visiting 14 cities in 5 weeks. The impact of the sites on present day became clear through her trip.
Sarah found her second co-op within the narcotics and money laundering unit at the U.S Attorney's office. She learned that her career could have an earnest impact on the daily lives of those she serves.
In her senior year, Sarah published her thesis, combining her academic experience in political science with her experiential learning experience in law and public policy.
In April 2020, Sarah’s hard work on her senior thesis was presented at Northeastern’s Research, Innovation, Scholarship, and Entrepreneurship (RISE), and CSSH’s undergraduate research forum.
Sarah is now a Law student in the Carey Law School at the University of Pennsylvania. She will be graduating in May 2023 and hopes to pursue another position at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“Northeastern is a school with so many opportunities – some you have to seek out, some that are thrown in your face. Take advantage of these opportunities, get involved in the things that you are passionate about, and use these four or five years to expand your worldview. You will never have the opportunity again to travel to different countries around the world, move to another city for six months for a co-op, and make friends from all over.”
