Aziza Ahmed on WGBH

Aziza Ahmed, Associate Professor at the School of Law and WGSS executive committee member, and Daniel Medwed, Professor at the School of Law, have co-written a piece for WGBH on how America punishes women for abortions, focusing on the case of Purvi Patel of Indiana, who is currently serving a 20 year sentence for neglect and feticide  after inducing a miscarriage to abort the fetus with which she was pregnant, at about 10-12 weeks into the pregnancy– within the legal limit for an abortion in the state of Indiana. Ahmed and Medwed write,

“The Patel case reveals the dark side of how we treat pregnancy and pregnant women in this country. For women’s rights advocates, the Patel case means we must ask troubling questions.”
