Journalism student part of award-winning Rio Olympic coverage on evictions

Journalism student Giulia Afiune, MA’17, returned to her native Brazil this summer to freelance for Agência Pública, an investigative journalism agency that focuses on human rights issues. Afiune, who had previously worked for the agency before coming to Northeastern, was part of an award-winning investigative team examining the fallout from Brazilians being evicted from their homes due to construction for the Olympics. The project won in the “Internet” category of the Vladimir Herzog Award, which recognizes journalism that denounces human rights violations and promotes democracy.
