The mission of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program is to generate and communicate knowledge about the complex ways in which gender, sexuality, and related categories of identity are shaped by culture and society in the United States and abroad. Our faculty is committed to engaging the intersections between gender and sexuality and other dimensions of identity such as, race, class, national origin, age, and dis/ability.
In pursuit of these goals, we develop and implement graduate and undergraduate curricula, research, and service in the field of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. We advance knowledge through interdisciplinary research, innovative pedagogies, and collaboration with other institutions, inspiring new generations of gender and sexuality scholars and feminist leaders committed to social justice. We strive to be a globally recognized model of excellence in gender, sexuality, and feminist scholarship.
As of January 2015, Northeastern University’s WGSS program is the home of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society.
