DHS’s Neo-Nazi Memes Show the Agency for What It Is

The Department of Homeland Security is using social media to not only spew neo-nazi propaganda but recruit immigration enforcement officers. It’s become the Trump administration’s online weapon for executing its mass deportation mission. The federal agency that was once meant to track White Nationalist groups is now using foundational White National texts like Which Way, Western Man? for X posts, and having their spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin proudly claim that their white nationalist posts are just being “unapologetically proud of American history”. 

This isn’t necessarily new for DHS, as they have always been unconcerned by white nationalism, and rather, have seen left-wing activist groups as threats. Specialist Patricia J.Williams, Northeastern professor of Law and Philosophy, and WGSS executive committee member notes the alarming deeper meanings that exist in the agency’s title of “homeland” security, and questions what the title was meant to evoke. This enforced ICE recruitments and social media presence highlights how maybe, this work has been the DHS’s purpose all along.
