She Real Cool will celebrate and explore the role of Black music in the Black feminist intellectual tradition. Through a partnership between Northeastern University Africana Studies and the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice (JGJ), this program will consider questions such as —what does Black Feminism sound like? How do artists hear, listen, and create as Black feminist? How have Black women been creating feminist soundscapes that continue to move us? How does looking at the concept of cool through a Black feminist lens shift our understanding of sound?
This roundtable will feature Dr. Gina Dent as the keynote speaker, together with Terri Lyne Carrington, Dr. Regine Jean-Charles, Dr. Aminah Pilgrim, and Aja Burrell Wood.
