Feminisms Unbound: Pornography and Feminisms
Porn is a longstanding site of feminist debate. This panel, which is held on Zoom by the The Consortium for Graduate Studies In Gender, Culture, Women, & Sexuality (GCWS), centers feminist artists and academics who see pornography as a tool for pleasure and politics, viewpoints that differ with those who see it as a form of violence against women.
Panelists include Jiz Lee, an adult film performer and an editor of Coming Out Like a Porn Star: Essays on Pornography, Protection, and Privacy; Liz Misterio, a visual artist, independent curator, and researcher who specializes in art, feminism, and culture; Malicia Sabina, a postpornographer and pleasure activist; and Shine Louise Houston, the owner and founder of Pink & White Productions INC.
Scholars and activists have pushed for viewing porn as a form of labor that can be both a site of exploitation and of pleasure. Panelists will reflect on this, new pornographies, and new ways of interpreting pornography as it intersects with queer theory, feminism, and anti-racism. The panel will be moderated by Sarah Luna, associate professor of Anthropology and Director of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Tufts University.
