WGSS core and affiliated faculty represent a wide range of departments and colleges within the university, and their scholarship engages a rich and diverse array of scholarly pursuits. Our faculty are particularly acclaimed in the following areas:
In addition, many of our faculty are committed to the work of being “public intellectuals” and are therefore involved in a variety of projects that reach out to non-academic and activist audiences. And our visiting and post-doctoral scholars both expand upon our existing strengths and bring unique perspectives to the Northeastern feminist community.
Since January 2015, Northeastern has been the academic home of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, the leading international journal in feminist and gender studies.
In April 2014, the WGSS program partnered with the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research (CATLR) to conduct a half-day workshop on teaching interdisciplinary topics. Envisioning this the first of series, we were gratified at the enormous interest. The participants came from a variety of departments (e.g. Law, Sociology, Communication, English) and represented the full range from Assistant to Full Professors.
The goal of this workshop was twofold: to empower existing affiliated faculty to teach core WGSS courses and to develop some clear parameters for teaching the course (e.g. what should be covered, what students should achieve, etc.). We engaged three parallel discussions to achieve this goal:
