On October 17, 2017, poet Danez Smith held an electrifying performance of their poetry in the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute. Danez Smith performed to a packed room of NU students, faculty, and community members.
Ellen Noonan (Associate Teaching Professor & Director of the Writing Minor) organized this performance and workshop with Danez Smith. She also helped bring poet Emily Skillings to campus for the 2017 Peter Burton Hanson Lecture and secured a Humanities Center grant to bring Safia Elhillo to campus next year.
