Professor Heather Salter is an accomplished educator known for her dynamic student-centered teaching approach that emphasizes transparency, active participation, and hands-on engagement with historical practice. At the undergraduate level, she fosters discussion-rich classrooms and offers meaningful assessment to facilitate students’ critical evaluation of course materials. Her graduate teaching record is truly exceptional, marked by sustained mentorship and a strong commitment to supporting a large number of MA and PhD students. She has made significant curricular contributions at Northeastern, playing a key role in building their World History program and helping develop what eventually became NUin. She pioneered online course design at Northeastern, where she emphasized experiential learning by integrating digital technologies and skills such as podcasting. Most importantly, she is deeply beloved by her students — her TRACE scores are close to perfect, and the qualitative feedback she receives demonstrates just how much she positively shapes her students’ educations, careers, and lives.
