Biden embarks on PR blitz after disastrous debate

President Joe Biden heads into the holiday weekend facing a series of planned events that could have serious consequences as his fate as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee hangs in the balance. First on the list is a closed-door crisis meeting tonight at the White House with several Democratic governors, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker – all names being bandied about as potential replacements.

On Thursday, Biden will begin a public events blitz led by a July 4 celebration at the White House with military and veteran families. On Friday he’ll sit for a taped one-on-one interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos – the first interview he’s done since his disastrous debate performance last week left the party reeling and sowed doubt about his ability to win the race against former President Trump in November.
