Despite recent spike in violence, shootings in Boston remain at 10-year low

Boston – 5 Investigates has been digging into Boston’s crime data, which shows that before the most recent incidents, this year had the lowest number of shootings in the last decade. With 46 shootings through last month, 2024 has been the lowest by far. But summertime has always brought the fear of increased violence.

“Just as a general pattern, we would expect to see a slight increase over the hotter months. We’ve been inside until May, essentially right until the weather warms up. And as there are more people out and about, there’s more opportunity for engagement, both positive and negative,” said Northeastern University associate professor Jacob Stowell.
