  • Project Description

The Assistant Director of the Writing Program supports the program’s instructional mission as a member of the Writing Program leadership team. Reporting to the Writing Program Director, the Assistant Director attends all meetings of the Writing Program Committee and works with the committee on all matters under its purview, including writing program policies, faculty development, curriculum, assessment, and other pedagogical issues for all required writing courses and for the Writing Center. The Assistant Director may also facilitate a range of efforts, such as collecting and analyzing data, coordinating peer instructor visits, development and maintenance of Writing Program Instructor Sourcebook and the Writing Program website, collection of syllabi from WP faculty, and helping the First-Year Writing Director and Director of Advanced Writing in the Disciplines with special projects, as needed. As a part of these duties, the Assistant Director will track the concerns of instructors and bring important issues to the attention of the Writing Program Director and the Writing Program Committee. This position is beneficial for PhD students in literature, digital humanities or composition-rhetoric who are interested in administrative positions within academia or either alt-ac positions (for example, in community literacy programs). Additionally, for writing studies and writing and rhetoric PhD students, this position is strategic for traditional tenure-stream positions.
