John E. Marston
Former Senior Vice President in Community Development Lending, Eastern Bank
John E. Marston recently retired from a banking career spanning more than 50 years.
Most recently, John was the Senior Vice President in Community Development Lending for 17 years at Eastern Bank in Boston. Prior to that, he has worked with Citizens Bank, Fleet Bank, Boston Trade Bank, and the United States Trust Company, where he began his career.
John is particularly active in non-profit activities, serving as the long-time board chair of the Newmarket Business Association in Boston and board president of the Boston Local Development Corporation since 1990. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for Northeastern University’s School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs and Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy, a member of the Loan Committee and a pro-bono technical assistance provider for Local Enterprise Assistance Fund, and a long-time member of the Fairmount Indigo Transit Coalition.
John is the former board chair of The COMPASS School in Dorchester, former board chair of the New England Center for Children, and former board chair of the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation. He has been a long-time board member for a wide range of other non-profit organizations, beginning with his role as board chair of the Citywide Educational Coalition in Boston in the 1970s.
He was awarded the Magis Award for lifetime community service in 2009 by Cheverus High School, his Jesuit alma mater in Portland, Maine.
John is a graduate of Boston College.
