Buddhist Ethics Symposium
Led by: Mark Wells
The Buddhist Ethics Symposium is a biannual in-person event (with hybrid option) for experts in Buddhist ethics, combining scholars of philosophical ethics with scholars doing ethnographic research on Buddhist communities. The symposium was intentionally designed to foster discussion among scholars, with faciliators recognized as experts in their fields leading small-group conversations on each topic intended to encourage intensive scholarly engagement. Attendees of previous events have described them as “a model of how people should interact with each other” and “a more humane kind of academic discourse and relationships”. The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation’s grant provides travel support for facilitators and under-resourced attendees, and covers the project management and logistical support provided by Northeastern staff.
