Callie Hansson

Criminology and Justice Policy, PhD

Callie Hansson (she/they) is a PhD Candidate in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on victimization and applies theories of framing to examine public perceptions of crime problems. They worked with Dr. Farrell as a graduate project manager for the NIJ study “Understanding the Trafficking of Children for the Purposes of Labor in the United States.” Their dissertation utilizes mixed-methods to examine labor trafficking of adolescents for forced criminality in the U.S. and public perceptions of this crime. More generally, her research interests involve how race, gender, and age impact victimization and survivor experiences with the U.S. judicial system. Callie is committed to inclusive research that fosters social equity and advocates for survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally-conscious responses to exploitation; and is passionate about addressing interpersonal and structural violence through evidence-based policy.
