Sociology PhD Student
Damla joined Northeastern University’s Sociology Department in Fall 2025. She holds a B.A. in Sociology with a double major in Political Science and Public Administration, an M.A. in Sociology from Ankara University, Türkiye, and an MBA from Fitchburg State University, Massachusetts. Her master’s thesis examined the critical issue of zina (adultery) and how men’s experiences of infidelity are constructed as a crisis of masculinity by patriarchal norms and the politics of intimate during the Justice and Development Party era in Türkiye. Her thesis was published as a book in Türkiye in 2024. Damla’s research interests include gender, the sociology of families and intimate lives, aging, and social policy. She focuses on how gendered welfare regimes shape the economic well-being and intimate lives of older people, producing and reproducing social inequalities in later life, with particular attention to Türkiye and the United States.
