Mel Williams

English PhD Student

Melissa (Mel) Williams (she/her) is a PhD student in the English Department at Northeastern University. Her fields of study primarily include colonial and post-colonial theory, multiculturalism, and the role of literature in education. She is primarily interested in the nuanced ways in which underrepresentation in academic environments challenges not only the sense of self but also the sense of belonging among black female characters in literature. Mel received her MLA in Extension Studies – English at Harvard University and her BA in Literary Studies and Japanese Studies from Middlebury College.
