Sarah Heavren

MA in Public History

Sarah Heavren graduated from Providence College with a BA in history, mathematics, and American studies.  She wrote her honors history thesis on the American chestnut tree, and one of her chapters placed first in the Phillips Memorial Library Craft of Undergraduate Research Contest.  Sarah began pursuing her interest in public history as an education intern at the Rhode Island Historical Society, writing side-essays and compiling additional resources for the online textbook EnCompass.  During her senior year of undergraduate studies, Sarah designed an internship through the Rhode Island Historical Society to produce an oral history collection for the Rhode Island COVID-19 Archive and the Providence College Archives and Special Collections.  She has also worked as a junior archivist for Big Y Foods, Inc.  A tree enthusiast, Sarah hopes to combine environmental history with public history to foster a greater cultural appreciation and respect for nature.
