How Donald Trump Could Serve a Third Term in 2028: Four Possible Options

President Donald Trump has repeatedly flirted with the idea of seeking a third term in office. But he acknowledged to reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday that the Constitution is “pretty clear” that he is not allowed to run again. “If you read it, it’s pretty clear. I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad,” Trump said. “But we have a lot of great people.”

Those comments came after he rejected one way that has been floated by some as a possible gateway for him to continue leading the country after his second term ends in 2029, saying he would not run for vice president in 2028. “I’d be allowed to do that,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday when asked if he might try to serve a third term by running for vice president first.

But he added: “I would rule that out because it’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It’s not, it wouldn’t be right.”
