Our Human Services community has deep ties to the nonprofit organizations and communities that are especially vulnerable to the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19. The Human Services Social Impact-athon for COVID-19 will provide a virtual space for our graduating seniors, undergraduate students and alumni to collaborate in awarding $10,000 to a local nonprofit organization addressing the pandemic. Modeled after Northeastern Students4Giving and the Social Impact Lab’s Social Impact-athons on Environmental Justice (Boston) and Women’s Empowerment (Mumbai), this week-long experience will draw on the skills and values that define our Human Services identity. In addition to the impact that we hope to have in Boston, we view this event as a way to honor the efforts of our graduating seniors.
Over the course of Senior Week, participants will work in teams to nominate and assess potential grantees using Social Impact Lab tools and frameworks. This event is open to graduating seniors, undergraduate students, and alumni. We expect the Social Impact-athon to require a flexible time commitment of 1-2 hours/day during the week of April 27. The grantee will be selected on May 1. We hope you can join us and look forward to celebrating our graduating seniors’ accomplishments by allowing them to showcase the knowledge and skills that make them uniquely qualified to support the nonprofit sector during this crisis.
This event is possible thanks to generous gifts from College of Social Science and Humanities Alumni.
