In October, the City of Boston hosted representatives from the OECD and six European cities—Manchester, Paris, Dublin, Cork, Berlin, London, Madrid, and Milan—for a workshop on the green economy. These ongoing convenings focus on evolving labor market needs and skills development to support a green transition as part of a broader OECD strategy to enhance local economic resilience.
Each city shared insights on their initiatives. Prof. Joan Fitzgerald presented Northeastern’s C2C and Dukakis Center research on occupational and skill requirements for Boston’s Green New Deal and Climate Action Plan. She highlighted the strengths and gaps in the city’s training infrastructure, particularly in preparing disadvantaged groups for green jobs. The workshop also included tours of local training programs.
