“Plain English Jury Instruction Project MTURK Study”

Spring 2015

Alana (English and Linguistics) and Professor Randall (English and Linguistics) are leading a team of Northeastern researchers in investigating how Massachusetts jury instructions can be changed to improve juror comprehension. Alana is moving the study online using a new research tool, Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTURK), to obtain a larger, more representative sample set and to confirm results from earlier studies that tested groups of Northeastern undergraduate students. Alana presented the results at the Linguistics Society of America meeting in January 2015.
