Nandhnee Kannan

PhD in Public Policy

Nandhnee Kannan is a first-year PhD student in Public Policy. She is interested in how diverse stakeholders govern water in rapidly urbanising coastal regions facing disaster risk, and how the state ultimately prioritises and institutionalises these competing claims. Before joining Northeastern, she worked at the Indian School of Public Policy in various capacities. There, she researched urban municipal finance and policies for urban economic growth, developed policy toolkits for navigating risk, contributed to case studies for the capacity building of policymakers, and supported the design and management of a postgraduate policy program. She is passionate about language justice and works with initiatives supporting community leaders in building grassroots organisations. She was also a guest lecturer in Economics at the University of Delhi’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, a Master’s in Development and Labour Studies, and an M.Phil. in Law and Governance from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
