Beacon, shovel, probe. Skins are on, the snow is fresh, and you’ve checked the forecast. Ready, you aim your skis across the slope and break trail towards one of your favorite stashes just below tree-line — think pillow lines and knee-deep pow. You and a buddy lap the spot as many times as you can before exhaustion hits.

In this theoretical bliss, every moment is a product of an extensive network of weather data. And yes, all the data is at risk. Project 2025 proposes to dismantle a key backbone to avalanche forecasting — the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA.
