Donald Trump Impeachment Petition Gets 250,000 Signatures

Apetition urging that Congress begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump be impeached has attracted more than 250,000 signatures, according to the nonprofit that initiated it. Newsweek has contacted the White House and Free Speech for People, the campaign group that set up the petition, for comment via email. The petition’s support highlights the growing political division in the country during Trump’s second term in office. Free Speech for People said on March 7 that its petition gained more than 250,000 online signatures. The specific figure has not been released by the group.

Free Speech for People launched the “Impeach Trump Again” campaign on January 20, the same day as Trump’s inauguration, citing reasons such as his pardoning of those involved in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and attempting to remove birthright citizenship. The group cites multiple other reasons for Congress to potentially impeach the Republican for his actions during his second term. These include Trump’s ongoing efforts to drastically reduce federal spending and allegedly abusing his power while seeking retribution against political enemies.
