Lorien Rice

Lorien Rice earned her Bachelors in Economics from Oberlin College and her Ph.D. in Economics from UC San Diego. Prior to graduate school, she worked for MDRC in New York, contributing to the evaluation of education and anti-poverty programs. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, working as a socio-economic planner for Souss-Massa National Park. Prior to joining Mills College in 2006, she worked as a Research Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California. Her research focuses on poverty, inequality, and access to opportunity. She has published numerous journal articles on integration and segregation in public schools and the role of transportation in providing access to employment.
