Newsweek, May 2026
Former President Joe Biden jumped into the 2026 midterm elections, making his first endorsements of candidates in Democratic primaries in recent days. Biden endorsed former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia’s gubernatorial race and Dan Koh in the congressional race for Massachusetts’ Sixth District, supporting two candidates who served in his administration. His endorsements could become a gauge of his influence over the party post-presidency as he works to establish his legacy. Newsweek reached out to Biden’s team for comment via email.
Joe Biden Endorses First Midterm Candidates
Biden has endorsed two candidates over the past few days, the most recent being Koh, a Democrat running to succeed Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, who is running for Senate, in a Massachusetts House district comprising of the state’s North Shore region. He served as the deputy director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs during Biden’s tenure. Koh’s campaign rolled out the endorsement Monday morning in a video in which Biden called him a “tough fighter for standing up for people in the country.”
