Danielle Shariff

PhD Candidate in Political Science

Danielle Shariff is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at Northeastern University. Danielle graduated with a B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society, and Education Sciences at UC Irvine. Prior to Northeastern, Danielle worked on the Disrupting Racism Project with the Center for Racial Justice in Education. Funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, Danielle was also a Research Fellow for CP-LEADS. Her ongoing research focuses on the fields of political discourse and social media, with a specific interest in the current U.S. political and civic information ecosystem. Particularly, she studies how international human rights issues are understood, discussed, and portrayed in society. Currently, Danielle is a Doctoral Research Assistant at the Defense Industrial Base Institute, an active member of the Society for Text & Discourse, and a Research Assistant for Dr. Sunny Yang.

Biography

Danielle grew up in Southern California and moved to Boston to begin her Ph.D. in Political Science. She currently enjoys learning Arabic, kickboxing, yoga, playing guitar, and writing poetry. She loves the works of Emily Dickinson, James Baldwin, and Mahmoud Darwish. Danielle frequently travels – her favorite recent trip was to Lebanon, eating kaak and drinking coffee every morning from Uncle Deek’s Cafe. One of four siblings, Danielle has an identical twin sister who studies Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases.
