Criminology and Justice Policy, PhD
Guissella E. Cruz Rodriguez is a doctoral student in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University, where her research examines the consequences of image-based sexual violence victimization among Latino communities. Since joining Northeastern, she has worked as a research assistant to Dr. Carlos Cuevas and served as a teaching assistant. She earned her B.S. in Sociology, magna cum laude with honors, with minors in Political Science and Criminology and Justice Policy from Florida State University. Prior to her doctoral studies, Guissella was a research instructor for FSU’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program and a mentor for the Noles Engaged in Politics program for FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. Beyond academia, she has worked as a paralegal in housing, personal injury, and regulatory law—her most fulfilling role being in VAWA immigration law at FSU’s Center for the Advancement of Human Rights. She also served as a legislative intern with the Pittman Law Group and the Florida Senate, where she advanced efforts to implement human trafficking education in Florida schools. In addition, she founded Divine Survivor Candles, a two-year social impact small business that raised awareness about sexual victimization and funded research on prevention strategies. She has also served as a community grassroots organizer with the Florida Immigrant Coalition, developing organizing strategies, leading educational webinars, and mobilizing civic engagement in Latino communities.
