Rishi Sidhu
PhD in World History
Rishi Sidhu is a first-year PhD student in World History at Northeastern University. He graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park, but was most enthralled by his historical sociology classes. After college, he became a community journalist in Wareham, Massachusetts where he loved reporting on the small-town dynamics of main street revitalization projects, town meeting battles over public school funding, and the surprisingly frequent controversies surrounding local politicians. Rishi is a dedicated teacher, and first set foot into the profession by teaching ESL to middle school students in Japan. Over the past half-decade, he has expanded his pedagogical repertoire by teaching history, government, and economics to high school students with learning differences. Rishi’s research interests reflect his intellectual passions and personal background by investigating how leftist ideology influenced anti-colonial movements in South Asia and the factors, both global and local, that influenced their successes and failures.
